Health Effects of Caffeine

Thursday, July 1, 2010 By: fitfax

Well guys some of us need caffeine to get us moving in the morning or keep us going late in the day.   I want to inform you of some health effects of caffeine especially during the summer months.  If you plan on being  outdoors, it is good advice to stay away from caffeinated beverages.  Caffeine itself depletes us of fluids.  If there is excessive sweating or prolonged exposure to dry air and sun, you could actually become dehydrated.  That is why experts suggest the reduction of caffeine and/or alcoholic beverages in these scenarios.

It is best to drink water!  By the time your body tells you that you’re thirsty, you are already dehydrated.  Water and sports drinks that contain electrolytes and carbohydrates, are the best fluids for intake when working, exercising or relaxing outdoors when it is hot.

My suggestion to you, if you are planning to do any of these activities outdoors, is to heed the advice of experts regarding the health effects of caffeine in the heat.
