I am living proof, that BeachBody’s Shakeology works as a weight loss meal replacement product while providing me with a nutritionally balanced weight loss diet plan.  I don’t eat right due to an increasing schedule of teaching aerobic classes and personal training sessions, so my time is limited.  However, 2 weeks ago, I started using Shakeology as my lunch time meal.  I have successfully lost 5 pounds and have an incredible amount energy.  I am also watching what I eat for breakfast and dinner, and of course exercising.

You have to be careful with a weight loss diet.  You may lose weight, but like yesterday’s blog mentioned, you will lose muscle tissue as well if your not eating protein, which is not good.  We want to maintain, and/or increase the muscle we have to have a higher metabolism.  Shakeology does that, because for every gram of carbs, there is a gram of protein to help you sustain your muscle during your weight loss.

Shakeology also has a very low glycemic index, which is appealing in a weight loss diet plan.  It uses yacon root, which is a natural sweetener.  It contains 70+ healthy ingredients including:  protein & essential amino acids, antioxidants, digestive enzymes, probiotics, vitamins & minerals, and phylonutrients.  It is gluten & caffeine free.  One serving is 140 calories with 10 of those calories coming from fat.  Shakeology comes in 2 flavors, chocolate (which I use) and greenberry.

All you have to do is , add a cup (8 oz.) of water, milk, or fruit juice to your Shakeology mix.  You can also add some ice as an option.   I personally like to add a 6 oz. non-fat vanilla yogurt container, and occasionally a tsp. of peanut butter.  It  mixes up nice and thick and I feel like I’m drinking a chocolate milkshake.  Plus, it keeps me full till dinner time and I don’t get that afternoon dip in energy.

If you are looking for a weight loss diet plan, that is healthier than some salads or if you are just looking to maintain a healthy nutritionally balanced body, you gotta try Shakeology!!

When it comes to a weight loss diet we can all use a little extra help to see the pounds drop a bit faster.  Let me give you a tip to keep in mind when it comes to weight loss and exercise.  We all know that sugar and carbohydrates turn into glucose,  which then turns into glycogen.  When your body needs energy, it uses the stored glycogen.  Any extra glycogen not utilized by the body turns into fat.

With that said, lets turn to our workouts.  The days that you are strength training (lifting weights) you can eat carbohydrates.  As opposed to the days when you are doing cardio only, limit your carbohydrate intake.  Here’s why,  the body stores glycogen and uses it when you need energy.  When that glycogen is depleted, your body uses the stored fat for energy.  By limiting the carbohydrate intake, you limit the glycogen, so the body can then utilize the stored fat and you become a fat burning machine!  Do cardio workouts for at least 20-30 minutes most days.  Really, the longer the better, and more burning fat.

This is another avenue to consider with your weight loss diet. You need protein for muscle building and strength.  Don’t overload with protein or fat.  Watch your carb intake and with cardio exercises  you will be on your way to successful weight loss!

pnuts machine and sandwichThere are a few foods that we eat that can sabotage our weight loss diet or fat loss. I am going to share with you some of those food items. The first big surprise is Peanut Butter. I know what you are thinking, that peanut butter has a large amount of protein. You’re right! However, it also has a large amount of sugar too. Not to mention, the hydrogenated oils (trans fat) in peanut butter to make it easier to spread. Instead, take a handful of nuts instead. The protein is slower to digest and will actually keep you feeling fuller longer. If you do consume peanut butter, the ingredients should be: peanuts and salt.

Another sabotaging item in your weight loss diet is: Diet Soda! Diet sodas are made with artificial sweeteners, which to your taste buds acts like sugar. Diet soda actually impedes fat loss. The caffeine in the beverage can trigger hunger pangs.

The same thing goes for sugar free gum, also made with synthetic sweeteners. It’s ok to have 1 or 2 pieces a day, but more than that will hinder digestion. This in turn will cause bloating and gas and prevent fat burning.

Finally, the biggest surprise for me was fruit! I know this sounds strange, but actually if youfruits dissect the ingredients of fruit, which is ‘nature’s candy’, it has a lot of sugar called fructose. Even though fructose is a natural sugar, it cannot be used directly for burning fat. It has to make a stop in the liver, and convert into glucose. However, if the liver has enough glucose stored (glycogen), it will not convert fructose to glucose and store it as fat.

There are better fruits to eat than others, like, cherries, blueberries, apples, grapefruit, pears and strawberries. Compared to watermelon, pineapple, kiwi or dates.

I hope these tips help with your weight loss diet. You can’t go wrong drinking lots of water, eating fresh vegetables and natural, unprocessed, low sodium & sugar foods.

belly with tp measureBehavior modification is one of the most important issues in any weight loss diet. That is, changing your behavior to modify your response to help you achieve goals. This is true in life, not just limited to weight gain, weight loss or starting an exercise program. So your weight changes and exercise programs are related to behavior modification techniques. Behavior modifications can only be effective if the person wants to change behavior for themselves and not for someone else.

There are many different behavior modification programs used for a weight loss diet and exercise program. There is reinforcement, punishment, rewarding and goal setting to name a few. There will be some relapses, so plan for relapse prevention and a strategy to modify the weight loss diet program and exercise training.

Losing weight and a weight loss diet do not happen by accident. It takes thought and planning. I’m going to help you plan for your weight loss diet. Planning ahead helps the success to your weight loss diet.

The first step you should take in planning your weight loss diet, is to get rid of all your high fat and calorie dense food. The next thing would be to eliminate purchases of such foods and instead substitute your purchases with low calorie and low fat foods. For instance, substitute low fat or 1% milk instead of 2% milk.

Our second step should be planning…meal planning. Yes, it takes a little bit more time putting together heart healthy meals. Aren’t you and your family worth it? Start with a good nutritioushealthy snak breakfast, like fruit, low fat yogurt or a single serving bagel. Pack your own lunch instead of going to a fast food restaurant. There are some fast food places that are trying to lower the fat in their foods, but it’s still better if you pack your own because you are in control of content and quantity.

As Americans, we consume most of our calories at dinner. After a long day at work, it’s easier to go out to eat or prepare processed prepackaged meals which usually are high in fat and calories. Instead, prepare your meals ahead of time and freeze them. Look for quick and easy meals that are low calorie. Keep plenty of fruit and vegetables on hand for snacking. Don’t go grocery shopping when you are hungry. Plan your meals ahead of time and purchase only those foods that are nutritious.

I hope that some of these suggestions help you with your weight loss diet. Don’t forget to find a friend for support. Tomorrow, I will discuss more tips to help with your weight loss diet.
