Flat Stomach

reverse crunchesOne area I have neglected when it comes to a flat stomach is Pilates. When someone asks me what Pilates is, I respond that it is core exercises working the abdominals from the inside out. Pilates totally focuses on the deep interior abdominal muscles.

Pilates is a gradual increase in abdominal strength. Some get frustrated after their first class, because they realize their abs aren’t quite as strong as they think. My advice is to stick with it and it will get easier and your core will get stronger.

Pilates is a great way to achieve that flat stomach if you train your muscles properly. As with any core work you also have to strengthen your lower back, the erector spinae. Pilates exercises targets the upper abdominals, the lower portion of the abdominals, and the external and internal obliques.

There are plenty of tools you can use for a more advanced variation to your routine to help achieve a flat stomach. Start slow and concentrate on executing the easier exercises first before you graduate to more advanced Pilates.
